Snowy Egret

.

I captured this Snowy Egret in the wetlands of Green Cay preserve in Delray Beach, FL. The angle of the sun and the overhang of the foliage created this wonderful contrast of him against the background.

Skyline Sunrise

This photograph is of the Miami skyline. It was shot from the Rickenbacker causeway about five minuets after sunrise. If you look closely you can see an early morning shower over the city and moving towards me. The start of a fresh new day.

Van Dyke Cafe

..

I absolutely love the expressions on these waiters faces. This was shot on a warm Sunday morning on South Beach and I would guess these guys and gals had a rough Saturday night. The guy in the center is looking directly into the lens which kind of unsettled me.

My Pelican Friend

PS-Animal__0047-01-Edit

There is a heartwarming story behind this photo. One day I decided to take a walk on the beach along the waters edge. As I started to walk I noticed this pelican swimming along parallel to me about thirty feet offshore. As I walked he swam. I pulled out my camera to get a shot of him and he took off in flight but instead of flying away he started to circle over head as if to say “take a picture of me now”. When I put my camera away he dropped back into the water and continued to follow me. After saying goodby for now and as I started back to my car, I looked back as he was taking off to look for breakfast. Was this coincidence or was it about natural beings becoming friends

A very classic style sailboat moored in Southern Biscayne bay with Key Biscayne in the background. I took this shot over fifteen years ago from the Barnacle historical site in Coconut Grove. This was taken with an old Olympus point and shoot but after a little artistic processing I was delighted with the result.

Off Days Gone By

.This image reminds me of when I was a kid going to Hollywood Beach. There were many days when you had the beach to yourself and everything seemed so spacious. Another thing  I like about this image is the contrast of the clouds floating over the calm and peaceful ocean.

Colony Historic Hotel

PS-Places__0168-02This is the historic Colony Hotel in downtown Delray Beach. At night the street is filled with nightclub people but now it was totally quiet as it was just before sunrise. A few minutes later the lights went off and the sun shined which of course would have changed the whole mood of the image.

Tricolored Heron

.

This photograph of a juvenile Tricolered Heron was taken at the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge in South Florida. The refuge is known as one of the best birding trails in the South and is home to many beautiful birds. This is just one of nature’s gifts that I so much enjoy photographing and as time goes by I will be posting more images of this natural world.

Best Little Camera Shop

This little 35 year old camera shop is in the Pineapple Grove section of Delray Beach. If you don’t see what you are looking for, just ask. Every time I go a discussion on photography ensues and if I am not careful an afternoon could pass.

Tug Cody C

HDR__0016

This is the hard working tug “Cody C”. Tug boats are cool as each one has it’s own personality with a story to tell. They not only tow barges but have saved many lives over the course of history. I would love to refit a tug like this and make it my live aboard home as many other sea loving people have done.

Rocky Racon

.

Once again I enjoyed the experience of watching and capturing the animal kingdom. I named this guy Rocky and whenever I visit this place he is there to see if I have anything for lunch. When I captured him in this photo he had just finished off some hotdogs from someones picnic. It is not supposed to be a good idea to feed racoons but everyone still does and this big boy sure appreciated it.

Sunrise Sentry

PS-HDR__0003A WWII watch tower on Dania Beach taken at sunrise, five exposures. The tower was constructed in 1942 as a lookout for Germans coming ashore on rafts that were dropped off from U-boats. What is interesting is that the tower was demolished after seventy years and a two weeks after I made this image. Talk about serendipity.

Crested Floating Heart

PS-Things__0104-01-Edit

To capture natures beauty in a photgraph and create a painting with color and texture is very satisfying for me. Since I was a kid I have always wanted to express the beautiful things I see but was never any good with a paint brush and canvas (never had steady hands, also left handed). With the digital age I can now try to capture what I see and hopefully make a work of art that enhances that beauty. These water lilies were taken on the Loxahatchee river which winds through part of South Florida.

Each person sees an image differently. I think that is what makes a painting or photograph art. What does it say to you. To me the color and the contrast makes this photo very pleasing to my senses.

Hillsboro Lighthouse

This was taken about 10 AM with the sun not quite overhead. By making a high dynamic range image I was able to capture detail. If this was just one exposure it would have been totally washed out and flat. Notice the people at the top? Makes you wonder what the are talking about.

Amerigo Vespuci

PS-Animal__0035-01

This is Amerigo Vespucci an American Bald Eagle that I captured on Kodak color film in 1978. I scanned the faded 8×10 and did my best to recapture his nobility. The touching story about him is that he was being released after two months recovery from a gunshot wound. A young man shot him in the Everglades near his hammock, luckily someone found this beautiful bird and got him to a wildlife rescue team where they were to save his life and return him to full health. On the day of this photo he was being released back to his home. The handler said he did not know how Amerigo would react when placed on the ground but when gently placed on the grass Amerigo around then opened his six foot wingspan, took off and and headed straight to his hammock (home) which was about a mile away. When he got there he circled about three times and then landed high up in his tree where he proudly sat to survey his territory. This was a very touching and heartwarming event for the few of us that were able to view his release.
